School Nurses and the Care of Children with Diabetes at School

This DVD will provide a 60 minute training on critical information needed to care for the student with diabetes in the school setting. Topics include a basic diabetes overview, aspects of the team approach to care, principles of nutrition, medical technology, blood sugar management, treatment of diabetes emergencies, planning and development of care plans for school, training school personnel, and legal issues.
After watching this DVD training participants will be able to:
- Notice an increased awareness about the important role of the school nurse in the care of children with diabetes
- Be more aware of the optimal management of diabetes and appropriate planning and training for diabetes-related needs and emergencies
- Have an enhanced understanding of children with diabetes and the law and the implications for ensuring a safe and healthy school environment.
This Educational Activity is presented by the School of Public Health Continuing Education, which has been approved as a provider of continuing education by the New York State Nurses Association’s Council on Continuing Education, which is accredited by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
