In 2003, Dr. Parente spoke to us about his early research on Consumer Driven Health Plans (CDHPs) and the impact of CDHPs on health information technology. As Dr. Parente’s national research on CDHPs, implemented with a six year HCFO grant, approaches the mid-point of the project, what has been learned so far? What forces in the healthcare market have enabled the introduction of CDHPs? What are Health Care Accounts and how do they fit? What is the national appeal of CDHPs and HSAs? What is the impact of CDHPs on cost and use of health care services for employers, providers and patients?
We thank the Capital District Health Care Coalition for sponsorship of this program.
