Maternal Mortality: Obstetric Emergencies & Reproductive satellite videoconference (January 29, 2003)
This program was part of the Safe Motherhood Initiative, a statewide effort to improve birth outcomes, reduce pregnancy-related deaths and racial disparities. The videoconference addressed reproductive health issues for women with chronic illness and improved response to obstetrical emergencies. The goal was to reduce maternal death through increased awareness of the leading causes of maternal deaths and to ensure training for health care providers in effective response to maternal emergencies. This videoconference is sponsored by the American College of Ob/Gyn District II-NY (ACOG) in conjunction with the Bureau of Womenís Health, NYS Department of Health.

Preconception Care satellite videoconference (February 27, 2003)
Pre-pregnancy care is an increasingly recognized need with both clinical and public health significance. The goal of the videoconference is to improve health care providers’ knowledge, understanding, and practice of preconception care as a means of improving pregnancy outcomes for women and children. The conference will build on a Preconception Care Curriculum developed at Montefiore Medical Center for the March of Dimes. Funding for the conference has been awarded by Federal Grant # 93.110TO from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

Colorectal Cancer satellite videoconference (March 27, 2003)
The goal of this program is to improve the knowledge of clinicians about the significance of colorectal cancer as a preventable cause of cancer mortality in women. It will also cover primary and secondary prevention screening options, with a focus on women.

NYSafety: Occupational Safety & Health Resource Center - Project funded from 1999-2002 to provide occupational health and safety resources via the Internet

Dental Public Health Residency Program - Case Studies - Worked with the Dental Public Health Residency Program sponsored by the NYS Dept. of Health and the School of Public Health to provide ListServ-based case studies.

HIV/AIDS Training - Worked with Plattsburgh, State University of New York, to provide HIV/AIDS-related training for the New York State AIDS Institute to health and human services providers in the Capital District and North Country.

Child & Adolescent Health Issues: Linking Health, Learning and School Achievement - Collaborated with Capital Area School Development Association and NYS Dept. of Health to present conference for school staff (Latham, March 9, 2001)

Public Health Data: Our Silent Partner - Worked with NYS DOH (CDC Assessment Initiative and Turning Point Project) to provide workshops to improve the ability of community health practitioners to understand and use data in their jobs. (Canandaigua, April 13 & 14, 2001; Albany, May 11 & 12, 2001; Saratoga Springs, June 26 & 27, 2001).

Basic Environmental Health Course - Worked with the NYS Dept. of Health Center for Environmental Health, assisted in re-designing and delivering the Basic Environmental Health Course for local county health departments each fall from 1996 to 1999. Course included local field work and classes via interactive videoconferencing. Designed and delivered instructor workshop "Adapting Instruction to Videoconferencing". Executive Summaries of evaluation reports are available for the Fall 1996 and Fall 1998 courses.)

Maternal Mortality Videoconference - Satellite videoconference to educate physicians about major causes of maternal mortality and disseminate findings of the NYS Maternal Mortality Review. Part of Women's Health Grand Rounds co-sponsored with Bureau of Women's Health, NYS Department of Health. Videotape available.

Sexual Assault Research-to-Practice Symposium (June 9, 1999) - Sponsored by New York Coalition Against Sexual Assault in cooperation with the School of Public Health. For scholars, professionals from rape crisis centers and other practitioners interested in applied and basic research related to sexual assault; to encourage partnerships in the effort to improve services and to encourage research that is survivor-centered and responsive to economic, social, cultural and national diversity.

Making It Work: Managed Care Plans and Rape Crisis Centers Collaborating to Improve Services for Patients Who are Sexual Assault Survivors (June 23, 1999) - Symposium with the New York Coalition Against Sexual Assault brought together key persons from managed care plans, rape crisis centers and the NYS legislature to improve services to survivors of sexual assault.

Emergency Contraception and Unintended Pregnancy Videoconference - National satellite videoconference featuring Robert Hatcher, MD, MPH, and James Trussell, PhD. Part of Women's Health Grand Rounds co-sponsored with Bureau of Women's Health, NYS Department of Health. Videotape available.

Medicare Videoconference - Working with New York State Office for the Aging, presented a videoconference about Medicare sponsored by Kaiser Permanente/Community Health Plan. September 23, 1998

Healthy Businesses (1998) - Grant from the New York State Department of Labor to establish the Healthy Businesses program, an employer-based public health intervention program focusing on worker safety and health training. Two-tiered program, which targeted small businesses in Rensselaer County, NY, building trust with employers and providing training to enable employers to develop and maintain effective safety and health training programs for their workers.

Training for Long-Term Care - Conducted focus groups, interviews and observations (Summer-Fall, 1996) to determine how best to prepare individuals and organizations to use the Minimum Data Set (MDS) 2.0 instrument. Based on needs assessment, developed curriculum on the MDS 2.0. (See MDS Needs Assessment.) Ongoing training began Fall 1997. (See MDS 2.0 Training Report.) Collected and published Q&As from MDS 2.0 training. Presented one-day MDS 2.0 Software Exhibition in October 1997.

Dental Management of the Psychiatrically Impaired Patient - a one-day workshop with Arthur H. Friedlander, D.M.D., and Judith Jones, D.M.D., November 21, 1996.

Needs Assessment of Local County Health Departments - Conducted seven focus groups across upstate New York to collect data on training and professional development needs in cooperation with Columbia University and the New York Association of County Health Officials in preparation for a statewide continuing education plan for public health. Prepared report "Continuing Education Needs of New York State County Health Departments".

"The Professional Development of Helping Professions in Rural Communities: Trends for the Twenty-First Century" (November 1, 1996) - Collaborated on symposium with Professor Shirley Jones of the School of Social Welfare, the Council on Social Work Education, and the School of Business.

Public Priorities Workshop (Spring 1996) - Assisted NYSDOH in delivering statewide public priorities workshops in Albany and Syracuse.

Immunization Project (ended Fall, 1996) - Provided support for interactive videoconferencing
