Clinical Breast Exam (CBE)

Training Program
Who should attend:
Open to registered nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and physicians currently performing clinical breast exams. Preference will be given to clinicians who administer CBEs through the New York State Cancer Services Program. This training is NOT to learn clinical breast exam skills. Practitioners must currently be performing CBEs to attend this training.
Objectives:
- Describe the epidemiology of breast cancer.
- List the breast cancer risk factors.
- Identify the goals and guidelines for breast cancer screening.
- List the components that the practitioner will perform in the clinical breast exam and demonstrate a comprehensive clinical breast exam.
- Define abnormal variations in breast tissue.
- Explain to the patient how to do a breast self exam.
- Document a comprehensive history and the findings of a comprehensive clinical breast exam.
- Morning session -- didactic
- Afternoon session – demonstrations and small group practice with gynecological teaching associate
Traning Format:
These one day trainings includes presentations, demonstrations and a small group practice with gynecological teaching associates. Space is limited to 16 participants per training.
