Injury Epidemiology
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand that injuries are predictable events and not random.
- Identify the principal kinds of prevention strategies.
- Understand the Haddon Matrix and its application to injury investigation.
- Consider the choice of injury control measures.
Bathing Facility Inspection
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify and describe the component parts of a swimming recirculation system and their function, including chemical parameters.
- Describe water circulation in a pool and the relationship with water quality.
- Identify and describe features in or around a pool or beach that are potential safety hazards.
- Describe factors affecting lifeguard supervision and surveillance or a pool or beach.
- Identify contributing factors to drowning and discuss prevention strategies.
- Identify unsafe diving environments and practices.
This course also has a required field exercise.
Priority for this course is given to environmental
health personnel. Other public health staff may register
on a space-available basis.
