Certificate Programs

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission into one of the Certificate programs, applicants must submit the following:

  • Proof of a baccalaureate degree (official transcript) from academic institution(s) where degree was earned
    (An official English translation from WES should be provided if the original is not in English)
  • A personal statement or letter of intent describing the applicant's background and his/her reasons for pursuing the Certificate
  • Official TOEFL score report as evidence of proficiency in English (For international applicants only)
  • A completed application and payment of fee
  • Resume/CV

How to Apply

Certificate in Public Health Fundamentals and Principles

Applications to the Certificate in Public Health Fundamentals and Principles at the School of Public Health are processed through SOPHAS Express.

To apply to the Certificate in Public Health Fundamentals and Principles:

  1. Create an account in SOPHAS Express
  2. Provide the required personal and academic history information
  3. In the Additional Documents section, upload:
    • U.S. Transcripts- upload a copy of each transcript from every U.S. college or university you have attended previously. You must also submit official transcripts directly to the School of Public Health Admissions Office at One University Place, Rensselaer, NY 12144
    • Resume or CV
    • Personal Statement- Compose an essay describing your past education, experience, and current professional career objectives. In addition, discuss how your completion of the certificate program will assist you in completing these objectives.
  4. In the Designations section, select the "University at Albany SUNY School of Public Health" and "Certificate" in the drop-down boxes and click the "Find Programs" button. On the next page, select the appropriate start term/year to which you wish to apply to the Certificate in Public Health Fundamentals and Principles.
  5. Submit the application and pay the application fee ($50).

IMPORTANT: GRE Scores and Letters of Recommendation are NOT required for admission to the Certificate in Public Health Fundamentals and Principles program. However, they are required for admission to the Master of Public Health and Master of Science programs at the School of Public Health.

Applications to the Certificate in Health Disparities at the School of Public Health are processed through the Graduate Studies Admissions Office
