Research Interests

The focus of my laboratory is the diagnostic serology of human infections. We test for evidence of infection by bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses. Zoonoses, infections of animals communicable to man, are a focus of research emphasis. Recently recognized arthropod-borne diseases such as Lyme disease, babesiosis, the ehrlichioses, and West Nile Virus infection are being studied as collaborative efforts with scientists at the Wadsworth Center, and at other institutions in the USA and Canada. Geographic variation occurs in several of the pathogens, and we are researching which antigens or combinations of antigens make the best diagnostic reagents. We are currently establishing multiplex serodiagnostic assays using a flow cytometric platform, the Luminex analyzer.
