School of Public Health General Registration Policies

Please review the registration policies and procedures carefully, as they may differ depending upon which department you are enrolled in.

Registration Deadlines

Advisement Verification Numbers and Class Permissions Numbers will not be available from Departments until the first day of Advance Registration each semester. Please consult the Academic Calendar to determine when Advance Registration begins.

The deadline for registering for Spring classes is January 1.

Classes will be made available to students from other programs after these dates. Early registration is encouraged to ensure a spot in your selected classes.

Registration Procedures

    Internship Registration Policy

To register for an internship, on-campus MPH students must complete an Internship Registration Form and turn it in to Katrina Chamberlain in the Internships and Career Services Office BEFORE beginning work at the internship site. Students will be issued a class permission number when the registration form is received. Students are required to register for the internship in the semester in which it is being completed. It is the responsibility of the student to register for the internship before the last day to add a semester length course. For comprehensive information on internships and internship policies, please refer to the Internship Handbook.

This policy applies only to those students enrolled in the traditional on-campus programs. Students enrolled in the Online MPH in Public Health Practice must contact the Online Program Director.

Registration Priority for On-Campus School of Public Health Classes

School of Public Health on-campus courses are available to matriculated students in the following priority order:

    1. Students enrolled in a School of Public Health MS, MPH, PhD, DrPH program.
    2. Students enrolled in the Certificate in Public Health Fundamentals program.
    3. Non-degree School of Public Health students who meet the criteria for enrollment in the class.
    4. Students enrolled in other schools and programs at the University at Albany.

Students enrolled in the Online MPH in Public Health Practice are NOT eligible to take classes on-campus.

    Waitlist Policy Procedures

Students can request to be placed on the waitlist for a course. Please provide a valid University at Albany email address when requesting to be placed on a waitlist.

Placement on waiting lists is determined by the priority list detailed above and date and time that the request was received.

Please do not email to check on the status of a course and its waitlist. Students will be contacted if there is a seat available.

Please do not contact the instructors as they have neither the course permission numbers for courses, nor the waiting lists for courses.

    Online Courses

Most online courses are prioritized for students enrolled in the Online MPH in Public Health Practice and the Certificate in Public Health Fundamentals and Principles programs. Please refer to the Registration Policies for School of Public Health Online Courses to review the priority and waitlist policies for these courses.
