Certificate in Health Disparities Application

Health disparities are on the national agenda. The Certificate in Health Disparities is designed to respond to the need for current and future leaders in public health, social services, medicine, and the social sciences (public health, social work, psychology, economics, and anthropology) to be knowledgeable of the issues and strategies needed to eliminate health disparities. The goal of this graduate program is to train current students and professionals in the field to be leaders in addressing and working to eliminate health disparities. As stated by the Institute of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, central to addressing health disparities is research and practice with community partners, with the goal of building community capacity and sustainability.

Required Application Materials

  • Official transcripts (submitted directly to the Graduate Admissions Office)
  • Personal statement
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation, preferably faculty or supervisors in a health-related field
  • Resume

International Requirements

  • WES evaluations for international transcripts. Evaluations are not required for Canadian transcripts if the language of instruction is English.
  • Minimum TOEFL score of 98 (institution code: 5688), two semesters of full-time study at a US college or university, or completion of an undergraduate degree in a country where English is the official language and language of instruction

Application Requirements

  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing

Personal Statement

  • Why do you wish to pursue this certificate and why are you interested in your chosen area of concentration?  The statement must include a discussion of two issues related to health disparities in the contemporary US
  • 1500 word limit
