    Annual Hajj Pilgrimage Contributes to Dangerous Air Pollution in Mecca

    Haider Khwaja, Ph.D., worked with research scientists from the University of California, Irvine (UCI), King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia, and the University of Karachi in Pakistan to collect data and analyze air quality samples along roadsides, massive air-conditioned tents, and tunnels that led to the Grand Mosque during the 2012 and 2013 annual hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

    School of Public Health Dean Nasca was appointed to serve on a panel of public health experts for the New York State Department of Health's Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) Project Approval and Oversight Panel. The objective of the initiative is to transform the Medicaid delivery system over the next five years.
