Katherine Maciol to Speak at SPH Commencement
Katherine Maciol, President/CEO of the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) will serve as the commencement speaker at the School of Public Health’s May 17, 2014 ceremony. With over 30 years of professional experience in the human services field, Ms. Maciol is recognized as an expert in the fields of child welfare and mental hygiene. Her work has been published in national journals.
As President/CEO, Ms. Maciol oversees a $21 million dollar private, nonprofit Community Action Agency located in Troy, NY, that offers programs and services aimed at eliminating poverty through education, guidance and resources. The agency provides services to the residents of Rensselaer County, including Head Start/Early Head Start, WIC, food pantry and housing services.
Ms. Maciol previously served as the Commissioner of the Rensselaer County (NY) Department of Mental Health, overseeing the delivery of services to individuals with mental illness, mental retardation, and developmental disabilities, and those in need of substance abuse services.
Ms. Maciol earned her Masters in Social Work (MSW) from the University at Albany School of Social Welfare. She has been recognized and profiled as an Outstanding Alumnus in the University at Albany Admissions Catalogue and received the Excellence in Public Service Award from the University’s Alumni Association in 2011.
