Emer Smith, Class of 2007
Emer Smith has been a Public Health Educator with the HIV, STD, & Viral Hepatitis Program of the Maine Center for Disease Control since October 2010. She coordinates and evaluates the HIV Counseling and Testing Program and the Infertility Prevention Project for the state of Maine. She regularly trains community educators and clinicians in HIV prevention counseling and testing. Emer has also been working on the development and implementation of the Expedited Partner Therapy law. Currently, she is conducting an outreach campaign targeting gonorrhea among young women in Central Maine.
Prior to her current position, she was employed with Rensselaer County Department of Health (Troy, NY) as a senior public health educator and emergency preparedness educator, and Bangor Region Public Health and Wellness (Bangor, ME) as a substance abuse and tobacco prevention specialist.
Emer is a native of Watkins Glen, NY and currently resides in Augusta, ME with her cat, Clue.
