Using Social Media During Extreme Events

Summary

Half-day training program targeting public health and emergency planners. Program designed to introduce the current use of social medial in preparedness and response and potential future opportunities for use.

Objectives

  1. Define social media and identify different tools which can be used in social media activities
  2. Identify the people who social media messages reach and how they differ depending on the social medial tool being used
  3. Describe how social media can be utilized during emergencies
  4. Identify barriers and challenges with using social media in disaster and emergencies
  5. Learn how to develop and use social media for distributing emergency messages and information
