SPH Program Recognized
A Community-Based Participatory Research program co-led by Janine Jurkowski, University at Albany School of Public Health associate professor of Social Behavior and Community Health, was the lead program and one of the three programs supporting the University at Albany being named to the 2012 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Recognition to the honor roll results from efforts that address community issues and involve extensive student engagement. The program, Communities for Healthy Living, is a CBPR program initiated by the School of Public Health and supported by a grant from NIH R24MD004865 that empowers families with children attending Head Start in Rensselaer County, NY to reduce obesity and promote healthy lifestyles. In 2012-11, over 30 students, faculty and staff worked with 700 parents and children on educational activities. Click here to learn more about the University recognition.
