SPH COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

Saturday May 19, 2012, 2:00 p.m. GEC MAIN LOT

Because of the increased size of this year's graduating class, SPH Commencement ceremony will take place OUTSIDE on Saturday, May 19th at 2:00 pm in the George Education Center’s Lot and will recognize Undergraduate, Certificate, Masters, and Doctoral students.

The ceremony typically lasts approx. one hour, and will be immediately followed by a light reception on the lawn.In the event of inclement weather, the reception will be held in the Cancer Research Center.

THE SPH CEREMONY WILL REMAIN OUTDOORS REGARDLESS OF WEATHER CONDITIONS. Please plan accordingly.

UALBANY MAIN (UPTOWN) CAMPUS GRADUATE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

Graduate students are invited to participate in UAlbany’s University Wide Graduate Commencement Ceremony which will be held on Saturday, May 19th at 9:00 a.m. at SEFCU Arena.

Students interested in participating in the university wide ceremony must register. NO TICKETS ARE NEEDED FOR THE MAIN (UPTOWN) CAMPUS CEREMONY.

SPH CEREMONY TO BE HELD OUTSIDE

  • In an effort to accommodate the increased number of graduates and their guests, we have decided to move this year’s SPH Commencement Ceremony OUTSIDE on Saturday, May 19th at 2:00 pm in the George Education Center Lot and will recognize Undergraduate, Certificate, Masters, and Doctoral students.
  • The ceremony typically lasts approx. one hour, immediately followed by a light reception on the lawn.
  • In the event of inclement weather, the reception will be held in the Cancer Research Center.
  • Graduates participating in the ceremony should plan to arrive dressed in regalia by 1:30pm.

CEREMONY TICKETS

  • Because we’ve moved the ceremony outdoors, each person will receive 4 TICKETS.
  • Students needing more than 4 tickets can request to be placed on a waiting list. Additional tickets will be distributed based on seating availability.

Tickets for graduation will be available on Student Poster Day, Friday, April 20th.

  • There will be a table in the CRC where graduates can pick up tickets. Students will need to provide a signature stating they were received.
  • If you do not plan to use all of your tickets, please return extras to Susan Bernardi-Bain, PHLOT Coordinator, Office of Student Affairs, Rm. 118. Extra tickets will be reissued to those on the Waiting List who need them. We will do our best to accommodate all students.

After Student Poster Day.....

  • Students can pick up tickets Monday-Friday between 10am-3:30pm with Susan Bernardi-Bain, PHLOT Coordinator, in the Office of Student Affairs, Rm. #118.
  • If you are not able to pick up tickets during this time, e-mail or call Susan (518) 408-2341 for alternate arrangements.

REGALIA

  • All students must have the proper graduation regalia to participate in the Commencement ceremonies.
  • Questions regarding regalia can be directed to the University Bookstore at (518) 442-5690.

Masters Graduates

  • Regalia will be on sale (and is only available) at the University Bookstore on the uptown campus through Saturday, May 19th. However, sizes cannot be guaranteed the longer you wait.
  • Regalia packages include cap, gown, tassel and hood for $76.98 plus tax. Note: you can purchase the Public Health color tassel (salmon), for an extra $7.98 plus tax.
  • Complete the Masters Regalia Form and submit to the University Bookstore.

Doctoral Graduates

  • Regalia can either be rented or purchased through the University Bookstore.

RENTING: Rental prices include gown, hood, and tam for $191.50 plus tax (price includes the tam that you MUST purchase). The final day to rent regalia for graduation is April 23rd.

PURCHASING: Orders to purchase the set or individual pieces must be placed by April 2nd. Purchase price is $878 (Gown $620.00; Hood $161.00; Tam $67.00) Rented regalia must be returned in its original condition to the Bookstore by Wednesday, May 23RD or you will be charged the purchase price.

GRADUATION CELEBRATION

  • Come join the School of Public Health campus community as we celebrate and honor this year’s graduating class aboard the Captain JP Cruise!
  • This event is open to ALL SPH students, faculty, staff and their guests. The more the merrier!

                    $28(SPH STUDENT)/ $40 (FACULTY/STAFF/GUEST)

(includes buffet dinner with 3 entrees, tossed salad, vegetable, potato, rolls, coffee/tea & dessert bar, DJ, and private charter! Cash bar will be available)

RSVP form (with payment) required to secure your spot. Cash/checks only. Checks made payable to University at Albany Foundation.

Deadline to RSVP: Friday, May 4th.

IMPORTANT DATES

April 16
Doctoral candidates must notify the Office of Graduate Studies of plans to attend Commencement on the Uptown campus.

April 23
Last day to rent Ph.D. regalia through the University Bookstore.  Ph.D. candidates must notify Joanne Baronner (jbaronner@albany.edu) in the Office of Graduate Studies, of plans to attend Commencement on the uptown campus.
