Delta Omega Honor Society
National Public Health Honor Society - Alpha Gamma Chapter
The UAlbany School of Public Health is home to the Alpha Gamma Chapter of the Delta Omega Public Health Honor Society. Delta Omega is a national organization that aims to encourage excellence in research and scholarship among graduate students in public health and to recognize attainment in the field of public health.
Our Delta Omega chapter sponsors the School's convocation ceremony every fall. In the spring, it sponsors a student research poster competition in conjunction with the schoolwide Student Poster Day. Winners of the local Delta Omega poster competition compete in a national Delta Omega poster competion. Top students in that contest are chosen to present their posters at the American Public Health Association's fall meeting. Alpha Gamma Chapter winners have been selected for the poster session almost every year, and several of our students have won the national contest.
Every year our chapter inducts new Delta Omega members from among the graduating students, alumni, faculty, and distinguished public health leaders in the community. In accord with the national constitution and bylaws, all candidates must demonstrate academic excellence and a potential for or record of significant contributions to the field of public health.
Since its founding in 1924, the Society has expanded to 59 local chapters across the US, with over 6,000 members. A National Executive Council, consisting of elected officers and delegates from the local chapters, administers the affairs of Delta Omega.
