Lawrence
Raffalovich's Research Projects
Model Selection in Behavioral
Research
- The major goals of this project are (1)
to evaluate the empirical performance of model
selection techniques under a wide range of
conditions typically encountered in quantitative
behavioral research, and (2) to provide evidence-based
advice to practitioners on which (if any)
of these procedures offer the most useful
guidance.
Nest Egg or Goose Egg? Race,
Class, & Housing in America
- This project investigates the effect of
neighborhood racial composition on neighborhood
homeownership rates, housing value, and housing
value appreciation from 1980-2000 in the 26
metro areas which have the largest proportionate
black, Hispanic or Asian populations.
Does Economic Inequality Promote
Economic Growth? A Cross-National
Time-Series Analysis
- This project examines the impact of income
inequality on subsequent rates of economic
growth in a sample of approximately 40 countries
from the 1960s through the 1990s. We hope
to adjudicate conflicting theoretical expectations
and empirical findings, and specify institutional
correlates of between-country differences
in effects.
Race and the Distribution of
Family Income
- This project uses thirty years of Current
Population Survey data to document trends
in the distribution of family income; the
proportion of family income that comes from
employment, wealth, and transfers; and racial
differences in these trends and distributions.
