2004-2005 Sociology Department Graduate Cohort

  Anna did her undergrad at Howard University in Biology and did some graduate coursework at Columbia in education.  She also taught middle and high school students in Bronx for two years before coming to Albany.  Anna's research interests are primarily race/ethnicity, and social stratification as evidenced by socioeconomic status/class.  She is interested in seeing how these factors affect the type of education a child receives and ultimately how it widens or limits their life choices.          Lisa did her undergraduate work at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where she majored in Sociology and minored in Criminal Justice. Her areas of interest are crime and deviance, social

  Jeanine graduated from Loyola College in Maryland in 2002 with a BA in Sociology and a minor in Gender Studies.  Her interests are primarily in gender and racial inequality.  Her senior research project investigated residential segregation in Baltimore neighborhoods.     Andrew completed his undergraduate work at SUNY Albany, majoring in both sociology and political theory. Interested in the cross road between these two related areas, he has participated in research investigating the interconnection between political elites and definitions of deviance. In addition, Andrew is interested in the exploration of the dynamic relationship which exists between the industries of culture and politics.     Joleen is from Latrobe, PA near Pittsburgh.  She received her B.A. in psychology and sociology from Saint Vincent College (PA) and received her M.A. from Indiana University of PA in sociology.  Her primary research interests are in the family and theory.  Joleen is interested in pursuing an academic career in teaching at the university level.

      Megan studied sociology and women's studies at Skidmore College.  Upon graduating, she worked as a Senior Research Assistant at the Murray Research Center, a social science data archive in Cambridge, MA, preparing data for secondary analysis. Life then took her to Portland, OR, where she worked for the state public health agency in environmental health.  In her graduate work, she plans to pursue her research interests of social movements, gender, sexuality, and feminist theory.     Jessica graduated from Fairfield University with a major in International Studies and a minor in Sociology.  She did her much of her undergraduate sociology work on demography.  She looks forward to studying gender, family, social stratification and women's studies while at Albany.

  Reese graduated from Colby College in 2004 with a BA in Sociology.  During this time she spent a semester in Amsterdam, NL studying sexuality, gender and identity and independently researched women who sell sex to other women.  Her primary interest is in deviant sexualities.  Upon completion of her Ph.D., she plans to become a faculty member of a small liberal arts college in a Sociology or Queer Studies department.     Jessica Singer did her undergraduate work at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.  She majored in sociology and anthropology and minored in women's studies.  She is interested in aspects of deviance and gender, especially the areas where the two fields overlap.     Kim graduated from Northeastern with a Masters Degree in sociology this past May.  She received a BA in sociology from Drew University in 2001.  Her research interests are in the areas of gender and sexuality with a focus on transgender identities.
