Recent Research Projects

  • Adult Sibling Relationships -- This project (with Prof. Trent) examines relationships among adult siblings, using data from the National Survey of Families and Households on patterns of contact, closeness, and help given and received from siblings.  The project also examines the effects of having siblings on other aspects of adult lives.
  • Social Network Influences on Illness Self-Management -- The purpose of this research (with Prof. Gallant, Public Health) is to explore the influence of family and friends on older adults' self-management of chronic illnesses.
  • Aging Parents and Adult Children -- This project (with Profs. Deane and Ward) uses two waves from the National Survey of Families and Households to study relations between adult children and their aging parents. We extend work on how relations between parents and adult children are imbedded in and influenced by relationships with other adult children, using innovative methods to examine the processes by which families allocate intergenerational support between parents and multiple adult children.
