Excerpts from the October 26th, 2007 Teacher Update Day

When do I need to have an SRC look at my students' projects? What is the difference between an SRC and an IRB? Which projects need an SRC and which ones need IRB approval? Why did a judge give my son a hard time about his project's use of animals at JSHS? Why did my daughter go all the way to ISEF in Portland, Oregon to find out that her IRB form was inadequate and would have to be done over before she could set up her project?

These were some of the many issues dealt with on Frday, October 26, 2007 at the Science Research teachers update day held in the campus center at U Albany.

Our thanks to the wonderful group of volunteers who made up the discussion panel: Ralph Pagano, Beth Schoenbrun, Janet Longo-Abinanti, Regina Reals, Donna Mooney, Angelo Picchirillo, and Michael Blueglass

Those seeking some background will find a wealth of information at the ISEF web site hosted by Society for Science and the Public. Links to their SRC-IRB page and a very informative PowerPoint are provided below.
