Q & A with Robin Prunty, MPA '87

If you had to condense your job description into an elevator pitch, how would it read?

Robin: I work at Standard & Poor's Ratings Services and lead a team that provides credit ratings to state governments, higher education institutions, charter schools and not for profit health care institutions. The ratings assist these entities when accessing the capital markets for key infrastructure and facility requirements.

What about your job inspires/excites you every day?

Robin: It has been a continuous learning opportunity for me since the day I started as it relates to both capital markets and public policy issues.

How did Rockefeller College prepare you for your career?

Robin: The coursework at Rockefeller College was detailed and hands on as it relates to governmental accounting, budgeting and tax policy. This gave me a tremendous advantage during the training process at S&P. The internship opportunity at the Division of Budget was the most valuable, however, because it established the connection to the municipal bond market and S&P.

What is one piece of advice you would share with a current Rockefeller student wishing to pursue a similar path?

Robin: Have an open mind about your career path, network wherever you can because you never know what idea or contact it will generate, and always be eager to learn.

When you're not on the job, where can you be found?

Robin: Generally with my family — I have three boys so my husband and I can frequently be found on various football and lacrosse fields.
