The doctoral program in public administration and policy has achieved both excellence and national/international recognition. We have consistently been ranked in the top ten programs in public administration and policy in recent years. In the last five years our students have received best dissertation awards from the National Association of Schools of Public Administration and Affairs (1993 and 1996), the Academy of Management Public Sector Division (1994), The Institute of Management Science - Operations Research Society of America (1992), and The Association for Applied Anthropology (1997). Our program is widely known as being at the forefront of multidisciplinary education in our field.

PhD Student Kathleen A. Kelly FNP, MS, MPH has devoted her dissertation work to the emerging area of policy research and recently presented her early results as part of a distinguished panel at the Lewin Group's annual conference on Translating Research into Practice and Policy (TRIPP), co-sponsored by NIH, NCI , and AHRQ. Morris Bidjerano presented “Creative Solutions for Public Management” in the “Best Practices” section of the “Getting to Aha! Teaching Creativity at SUNY” conference, hosted by the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Fashion Institute of Technology-SUNY, NYC, on March 31, 2006.

 


  Young Ah You and Gyojeong Gu were awarded fellowships from American Society for Public Administration. They will be receiving their scholarships at the next ASPA National Conference.
   
 

Shawn Flannigan received an IARO grant from the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) to conduct dissertation field research in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The IARO Program provides fellowships to US scholars for overseas research on contemporary political, economic, historical, or cultural developments relevant to US foreign policy. Her dissertation examines the influence of religious identity on service provision by faith-based nonprofits operating in contexts of religious violence, with specific attention to the implications for inclusion and exclusion from services. The dissertation is based on a comparative study of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon, and the United States.
