A dual Master of Social Work and Master of Public Administration is offered by the School of Social Welfare, University at Albany, and the Department of Public Administration and Policy of the Rockefeller College. Students take the MACRO concentration in the MSW program and take the social work courses to satisfy the MPA program's requirement of five electives. The program is a Council on Social Work Education accredited MSW program under the School of Social Welfare's accreditation.
The MSW degree with a MACRO concentration prepares graduates for professional social work in service delivery and management of human service organizations. Additional skills include evaluation, resource development, advocacy and community development. The MPA prepares students for careers as policy analysts and leaders in public service. Skills include analytic and quantitative skills to frame policy issues, deal with institutional and political contexts and effectively bring about actions to formulate, approve, implement and evaluate policy.
The dual program offers students the opportunity to combine a commitment to public social policy with strong analytic skills in formulating and analyzing policy. |
