Applications for admission must be post-marked by August 15, 2007.
Applications for funding and admissions must be postmarked and received by January 2, 2007 to be fully considered for funding.
Applications may be submitted throughout the year
Cohorts are formed for the fall semester only.
Applications for the Fall 2007 cohort will be considered until 8/15/07 or until the cohort is filled. Applications received after the maximum cohort size is reached will be deferred for consideration in the next admissions cycle.

Applications for the Ph.D. degree programs should include:

  1. A completed degree application form
  2. Transcripts of all graduate and undergraduate work to date
  3. Three or more letters of recommendation
  4. A personal statement - see detailed instructions below
  5. A resume
  6. A $75 application fee
  7. GRE scores (the GMAT is also acceptable)
   
 
Special Instructions for the Departmental Statement of Background and Goals
The Statement of Background and Goals is designed to help the PhD Admissions Committee assess the alignment of your research and professional interests with the aims and scope of our PhD program and the research interests of our faculty.

 

Format

1. At the top of your statement state your full name and the telephone number(s) and e-mail address(es) at which you may be contacted between January 1 and August 15.

2. Below your contact information please state your proposed area of concentration in the PhD Program:

Comparative and Development Administration
Decision and Policy Sciences

Organizational Behavior and Theory

Politics and Administration
Public Finance
Public Management

A full description of each concentration’s requirements and teaching faculty may be found in the PhD Manual (http://www.albany.edu/rockefeller/pdfs/PhD%20Manual%202006-2007.pdf)

3. If you have identified one or more faculty members as a potential advisor/mentor, please put that person’s name below your proposed concentration. The PhD Manual lists the faculty members who teach and conduct research in each area of concentration. You are not obligated to work with the faculty member you select.

4. When you have completed your statement, please submit a hard copy with your admission materials and send an electronic copy to: rpadphd@albany.edu


General guidelines

Please address the following in your statement:

(1) Why do you wish to pursue doctoral study?

(2) Why do you believe a PhD from our Department is a good fit for your interests?

(3) What are your research and methodological interests?

(4) What do you intend to do with your degree once you complete it?

Please use your statement as an opportunity to make us aware of any special qualifications, talents, or issues that might not be clear from the other materials you submitted with your application. The more specific your statement, the more helpful it is in the review process. A well-written, concise, focused Statement will increase your chances of admission.
