Specialization: Public Management & Governance, Social Network Analysis, Organizational Theory, Terrorisim & Counterterrorism

Courses:
R. Karl Rethemeyer is currently the Director of the Ph.D. program in the Department of Public Administration and Policy.

R. Karl Rethemeyer's research focuses broadly on the social impact of the Internet and more specifically on the impact the Internet has had and may have on political and administrative processes. His recently completed dissertation, titled Centralization or Democratization: The Internet’s Impact on Policy Networks, examines how information technology is changing the organizational and political environment in which public managers must operate and how public managers’ use of information technology may itself shape the environment. Through his affiliation with Penn’s National Center on Fathers and Families, Rethemeyer has also conducted several studies on policy initiatives that promote responsible fathering and fund services for fathers who wish to become more actively involved in their children’s lives.

During his graduate education, Rethemeyer taught both Master’s and Ph.D. level empirical methods courses at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, receiving the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Student Teaching.

Assistant Professor, Rockefeller College and Senior Research Scientist at the National Center on Fathers and Families, University of Pennsylvania.

Ph.D. John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, 2002.
