Rockefeller College Students Receive Chancellor's
Award for Excellence

Three Rockefeller College students were among 11 University at Albany students to received the prestigious Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence in a ceremony held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, N.Y. on Wednesday, April 2014.

The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence honors State University of New York students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for their integration of academic excellence with other aspects of their lives, which may include leadership, campus involvement, athletics, career achievement, community service or creative and performing arts.

This year's awardees from Rockefeller College are: Kelsey Hanson, Brian Junquera, and Kimberly Segura.

Kelsey Hanson, Class of 2014, is a political science major and history minor from Clifton Park, N.Y.  Kelsey's cumulative GPA is 3.81. Kelsey is the president of the UAlbany chapter of the National Political Science Honor Society Pi Sigma Alpha, and serves on the Rockefeller College Dean's Leadership Council. She is also a member of  Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honor Society; the Presidential Honor Society; the National Society of Collegiate Scholars; and Omicron Delta Kappa. Kelsey has made the Dean's List every semester since beginning her studies at UAlbany. She has presented research at the SUNY Oneonta Undergraduate Political Science Conference and was a scholarship athlete on the varsity indoor and outdoor track and field team. She was named America East Conference Field Performer of the Week in January 2013. Currently, Kelsey is interning at the New York State Senate in the office of Senator George D. Maziarz (R-62). After graduation, Kelsey will be attending SUNY Buffalo Law School.

Brian Junquera, Class of 2014, is a political science major and history minor from Scotia, N.Y. Brian is a member of the Honors College at UAlbany and has maintained a 4.0 GPA. Brian is a recipient of the Rockefeller College Alumni Academic Excellence Scholarship and was selected to become a member of Phi Beta Kappa. During his time at UAlbany he has served as a senator and associate justice of the Supreme Court in the Student Association. Brian was a resident assistant in State Quad in the Honors College Residence Halls and was a member the Rockefeller College Dean's Leadership Council and the Presidential Honors Society. He has participated in numerous volunteer projects during his studies at UAlbany. He enjoys sports and has been a member of the intramural soccer team. Brian has worked as an intern in the Fulton County District Attorney's Office and the National Center for Security and Preparedness at Rockefeller College. In addition, he worked with Rockefeller College Political Science Professor Victor Asal on research related to terrorist and extremist organizations. Brian is planning on attending NYU in the fall.

Kimberly Segura, Class of 2014, is a public policy major and Latin American and Caribbean studies minor from Albertson, N.Y.  Kimberly has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.68. She has been an active member of the Rockefeller College Dean's Leadership Council and an executive board member for Albany Student TV. She has been a Spellman Achievement Award recipient for three consecutive years. Kimberly has been inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. While a student at UAlbany, Kimberly has been a member of the department of residential life. She has interned at the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, the Nassau County 1st District Civil Court and the New York State Assembly. Kimberly enjoys volunteering and has been involved in numerous community service projects.  Kimberly was admitted into the Master of Public Administration program at UAlbany as a BA/MPA student in fall 2013.
