The Rockefeller College Alumni-Student Jeopardy Challenge Night — January 22, 2013

Please join us for a fun evening with fellow alumni, students and faculty. The Jeopardy Challenge kicks off the spring 2013 semester for our students and will give them a chance to chat with our outstanding alumni in an informal setting.  Please pencil the date in on your calendar—whether you plan to join a team or just stop by for some refreshments and good conversation.

When does the Jeopardy Challenge take place?

The Jeopardy Challenge will take place on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 6-8:30 p.m. in Husted Hall on the downtown campus of the University at Albany.  We’ll be playing the Challenge throughout a number of classrooms in Husted.  The championship round will take place in the Husted Amphitheater right by the Husted Café on the first floor of the building.  Directions to Husted Hall.

How does the Jeopardy Challenge work?
In a nutshell, the Jeopardy Challenge will have 16 teams composed of at least 3 participants (and with no more than 5). Each game will be similar to the television of Jeopardy (e.g., six categories of questions and five questions in each category varying in value from 100 to 500). The team that clicks in first gets a first cut at the question; if they fail to get it right, the second team gets a shot. The team with most points at the end of 20 minutes (or when the board is exhausted) moves to the next round. With a 16 team bracket, there will be four rounds played one after another. The entire tournament will last about 2 hours. The faculty will create the questions and moderate the games with alumni volunteers.

Can I come to the event without being on a team?
Sure. We will have food and drinks to kick off the start of the spring semester which begins the next day. You can watch games, chat with faculty, and meet alumni and students after they compete in the games. Remember that after the first 30 minutes half of the players will become spectators like yourself!
