New for 2008-09 academic year, Dean Jeffrey D. Straussman will award up to six highly competitive graduate assistantships in fields of particular emphasis in the college. The Dean’s Scholar Awards support exceptionally promising students pursuing graduate study at the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy. These awards were established by Dean Straussman to encourage highly competitive applications to Rockefeller College’s nationally ranked graduate programs. The awards supplement regular financial aid packages, and include:

  • full tuition
  • a fund for educational expenses
  • $17,000 a year stipend for up to 4 years for entering doctoral     students in the Department of Public Administration and     Policy, and up to 5 years in the Department of Political     Science.
  • $9,300 for the first year of professional masters student

Doctoral Study
For doctoral students beginning in the 2007/08 academic year, the Dean’s Scholar Award funds an assistantship with a $17,000 stipend, full graduate tuition and $500 in funds for travel and other related research and educational expenses (such as books, travel to scholarly meetings, computer equipment, or research costs).

Award winners will be expected to work 20 hours per week as a research or teaching assistant. Health insurance and cost of living increases are available with the Graduate Student's Employee Union.

Awards will be made to graduate students planning to study in the following fields:

Masters Study
Award recipients beginning the two-year Masters of Public Administration or Masters of Arts in Public Affairs & Policy will receive in the first year a $9,300 stipend and a $250 allowance for educational expenses.

Awards are administered through the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy. If you are interested in applying for this, please submit:

  • a letter of application describing academic history including     your resume
  • plans for the future, and
  • why you should be considered for the award

To qualify you must first be accepted to one of our graduate programs. The deadline for application is February 1. On the outside envelope of your award application letter and materials, indicate "Dean's Scholar Award Application" and send to:
