Distinguished Continuing Professional Education Leadership Award of Excellence

Retired Director of the Bureau of Training
NYS Office of Children and Family Services

Peter Miraglia is a career public servant, having served the human service training community for more than 35 years, most recently as director of training for the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, the nation’s largest and most comprehensive social services training program. During his 17 years as director, Mr. Miraglia was instrumental in strengthening New York State’s Child Welfare Training Program, making it one of the strongest foundation programs in the country. He was also instrumental in developing the New York State Social Work Education Consortium, bringing the public child welfare system together with the state’s graduate and undergraduate social work programs to improve both education and practice. His keen appreciation for the power of technology in strengthening training and professional development helped make New York’s Child Day Care Training Program an award-winning national model. Due in large measure to his foresight, the Office of Children and Family Service training operation is by far the most technologically advanced in state service. Mr. Miraglia retired from the Office of Children and Family Services in January of 2010.
