Lawrence K. Marks has worked in the New York State court system for the past 20 years. Since 2004, he has served as the administrative director of the NYS Office of Court Administration (OCA). In that capacity, he oversees the day-to-day operations of OCA, the office that manages the state courts. In 2009, he was nominated by Governor David Paterson and confirmed by the New York State Senate as a judge of the Court of Claims; he sits part-time in the Supreme Court in Manhattan and Nassau County hearing criminal and civil cases. Previously, he served as special counsel to the state’s Chief Administrative Judge and as the criminal justice lawyer in the Office of Court Administration Counsel’s Office. Prior to his employment with the court system, Judge Marks worked as senior supervising attorney with the Legal Aid Society in New York City, in private legal practice, and as a law clerk to a federal trial judge.

Judge Marks is the editor and co-author of a leading treatise on New York criminal procedure law, and has written several law review articles and numerous government reports on a range of legal and public policy topics. He has also served on the adjunct faculty of Brooklyn Law School and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Lawrence Marks graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York at Albany, and cum laude from Cornell Law School, where he received a full-tuition scholarship and was an editor of the law review.
