Post-doctoral positions (2), Belfort Lab: Self-splicing introns and inteins

Postdoctoral positions are available in the Belfort lab to study both self-splicing introns and inteins. The group investigates both the dynamics of retrotransposon-like group II introns and their evolutionary relationship to spliceosomal introns and the structure, function, evolution and application of the protein-splicing inteins.  The successful applicants will use genetic, biochemical, structural and high-throughput genomic techniques in bacteria and yeast.  We will build on our discoveries [Coros et al. Mol Cell (2009) 34, 250-256; Chalamcharla, et al. Genes Dev. (2010) 24, 827-836; Callahan et al, Nature Struc. and Mol Biol. (2011) 18, 630-633]to explore the lifestyle, host inter-dependence and evolution of these self-splicing, RNA and protein elements. 

Candidates should have a Ph.D in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related fields, and publications in peer-reviewed journals.  Experience with bacterial and yeast genetics, structure and computation are preferred, but not essential.

The laboratory is in an interdisciplinary Life Sciences Research Building and is affiliated with The RNA Institute.  UAlbany is located in Albany, NY, which has a vibrant scientific and cultural community, situated a few hours by car or train from New York City, Boston and Montreal.  Surrounded by rivers, lakes and mountains, Albany is an ideal location for outdoor activities year round.

Postdoctoral Positions (3), Fabris Lab: Biochemical studies of RNA/RNA, RNA/protein, and RNA/small molecule interactions in viral and bacterial systems; Mass Spectroscopy Techniques

Three post-doctoral associate positions are open in Fabris Lab within The RNA Institute of the University at Albany. Research areas include biochemical studies of RNA/RNA, RNA/protein, and RNA/small molecule interactions in viral and bacterial systems involved in infectious diseases, with strong emphasis on the development of mass spectrometry-based technologies. Duties will include conducting an independent project and participating in collaborative projects with other members of the lab and external collaborators.
Requirements:
Applicants should have a Ph.D degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry or biology or related fields with demonstrated experience in any of the following areas:
a) molecular biology/biochemistry with experience in RNA and protein expression;
b) mass spectrometry and hyphenated separation techniques;
c) structural biology with experience in restrained molecular dynamics calculations.

All positions are available immediately. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. Medical benefits are provided in addition to salary. Appointments are for one year, renewable for a second and third year dependent on successful scientific progress, publications and availability of funding. Applicants are expected to seek and apply for federal and private agency postdoctoral fellowships. Postdoctoral Positions (3), Agris Lab: RNA Structure/Function Relationships and Control of Gene Expression

Three post-doctoral associate positions are available in the Agris Lab within The RNA Institute. Research areas include studies of RNA/RNA and RNA/protein interaction in control of gene expression, and their involvement in human infectious diseases, HIV and MRSA. Applicants should have a Ph.D degree in either: a) biochemistry/chemistry with the theoretical background and experience in operating modern high field NMR instruments and restrained molecular dynamics calculations for determining bio-macromolecular structure, or b) molecular biology/biochemistry with experience in RNA’s control of gene expression. All three positions are available in the Spring of 2010.
