Peter Bloniarz is Executive Director and Senior Policy Advisor for NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Cyber Security Advisory Board. The Board was created by Governor Cuomo in May 2013 to advise his administration on developments in cyber security and make recommendations for innovative strategies that will keep all New Yorkers and New York institutions safe from cyber threats.

Dr. Bloniarz is also a faculty member at the University at Albany, where he has served in the department of computer science for more than 35 years. Most recently, he was the founding Dean of UAlbany’s College of Computing and Information, the precursor of the University’s new College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

In his prior positions at the University at Albany, Dr. Bloniarz served as the Interim Vice President for Research and was one of the co-founders and research director of the University’s award-winning Center for Technology in Government. An advocate for quality teaching at research universities, Dr. Bloniarz received the University’s and the SUNY Chancellor’s Medallion for Excellence in Teaching, and served as interim director of the University’s Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. He joined the computer science department at UAlbany in 1977 after receiving degrees in mathematics from the College of the Holy Cross and the University of Massachusetts, and a doctorate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from M.I.T. He is one of the University’s Collins Fellows, a distinction given to faculty members who have shown extraordinary and sustained commitment to the University and its community.
