POLICY REGARDING DISTRIBUTION OF CREDIT FOR SPONSORED PROJECTS INVOLVING MORE THAN ONE ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT
Policy:
For purposes of distribution of credit for grants, including the campus net indirect cost earnings (net ICR funds), department, schools, colleges and other organizational units (Units) will receive credit based on the percentage of effort agreed upon at the time the proposal is submitted. Credit typically reflects the estimated project direct dollars assigned to each Unit. Credit will normally be determined by project investigators and approved by unit heads (e.g., chairs and deans and center directors). The credit assigned to Units can be based on other factors as long as all parties involved agree to the assignment of credit.
Requirements:
The Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator(s) will be responsible for specifying the amount of credit that will be assigned to each Unit involved in the project at the time the proposal is submitted to the Office for Sponsored Programs (OSP). All parties (investigators, chairs/department heads and deans/directors) must agree to the credit assignment.
Procedures:
The Sponsored Awards Management Information System and the Campus Impact Statement Form have been designed to collect this data. The percentages assigned to each Unit must total 100%. When units do not, or are not willing to determine a split, the Office of the Vice President for Research will assign shares between all Units listed on the Campus Impact Statement based on the relative contributions made by each unit. Appeals of the distribution of credit determination may be made in writing to the Vice President for Research only under extenuating circumstances. The credit assigned to Units involved in a project shall be provided to the Office for Sponsored Programs on the Campus Impact Statement at the time the proposal is submitted for review. The assignment of credit must be agreed to by all parties involved prior to release of the proposal by the Office for Sponsored Programs.
