UAlbany RNA Institute Given Valuable Molecule Collection

The RNA Institute of the University at Albany has received a gift, valued at $400,000, that will greatly enhance its ribonucleic acid-based research capabilities.Sigma-Aldrich, a St. Louis-based life science and high technology company, has given the center about 200,000 molecules of several types of small RNAs, some for humans and some for mice. The company also provided funds for three symposiums and workshops over the next three years.

UAlbany Biologist, Mary Katherine Gonder, Receives NSF PIRE Award

University at Albany biologist Mary Katherine Gonder will conduct an international biodiversity conservation project in Central Africa. Gonder will lead twenty undergraduate U.S. and African students to improve biodiversity conservation strategies in Central Africa, a region expected to experience drastic changes as global climate continues to warm.

Health Workforce Retraining Initiatives

The Health Workforce Retraining Initiative supports the training and retraining of health industry workers with the skills necessary in the health care market today. Since its inception, the program has awarded nearly $323 million to 462 grantees and trained or retrained over 150,000 health care workers.
