Completed Project: Labor, shelter, and monetary aid for low income family.

Married couple stands in the remains of their house, three weeks after the mudslides.

Water, mud, and rocks rushed through the house, toppling two walls--the wall visible behind the couple and the wall behind the camera--and damaging the house below. Incredibly, two walls (right and left) were left standing.

Working with family and friends, they had already cleared out three feet of mud from inside.

The same property, one week later. We hired workers to help them clear debris from their property.

The family was living in this structure, which was made dangerously unstable by the mudslides. We purchased materials with which to stabilize this house as well as materials to build them a temporary home.

Detail of some structural damage to their house.

There were three small earthquakes in October that damaged the structure even further. It is doubtful that the house will withstand a stronger earthquake.

The family is now living in the temporary home and are waiting for news regarding what kind of aid governmental and nongovernmental organizations can provide them to reconstruct a more permanent home.
