Ongoing Project: Construction of sanitary facilities at Las Manos
We made a monetary contribution toward the construction of new sanitary facilities at Las Manos, the biggest settlement of displaced people in Panajachel.
Construction of homes at Las Manos.
There are 180 people at the settlement, all of whom were sharing only a few bathrooms and washing facilities.
The owner has allowed families to reside in temporary structures until April. |
|
Las Manos is located in the same area as many of the homes that were washed away in Panajachel--in the vicinity of the main river that flows through Panajachel.
The earth in vicinity of the river is sand, which was washed away by the force of the current. |
|
Old sanitary facilities
Las Manos had only two pilas (wash basins) for the entire resident population. |
|
Likewise, the entire population was sharing only two bathrooms. |
|
New sanitary facilities
We contributed funds that built four new pilas, which are used to wash dishes and clothes. |
|
We provided funds to build four more bathrooms.
This structure now holds four new toilets connected to a preexisting septic system. |
