Rich will share advice on how to turn well known stories and classroom readings into theater by and for children.  The value of "playing through" fiction for students' comprehension and fluency has been well recognized in current research.

Creating a Learning Community Through Responsive Literacy Coaching

Literacy coaching is a unique and generative opportunity to engage with teachers.  Coaches and teachers collaborate to problem solve and create learning communities.   In these communities, our teaching becomes more refined, deliberate, and purposeful.   When we learn together we create powerful learning contexts for teachers and children.

Underground Railroad in Albany

Mary Elizabeth Steware, Underground History Project of the Capital Region

Mary Elizabeth Stewart will speak about recent developments in her project to uncover Albany's rich history as a terminus in the underground railroad.  She will offer suggestions for integrating this into the curriculum at various grade levels.
