Stella Pietrzyk Scholarship

 

The Reading Department accepts applications/nominations for the Stella Pietrzyk Scholarship. This is the sixth year of the endowment, which allows $500/year for a Reading Department student to attend a children's literature conference. This scholarship is intended for a Reading Department graduate student who shows a strong interest in issues associated with literature for children, adolescents, and young adults.

  

The scholarship may be used for registration and travel to a children's literature conference, such as Children's Literature Association Conference, American Library Association Conference, or Conference on Modern Critical Approaches to Children's Literature.

Students currently enrolled in the Reading Department may apply for the scholarship. To apply for the award, applicants need to:  

  • In a one-page statement, articulate your interest in children's literature. Discuss how literature connects to your teaching and/or research. Share how the conference might further your professional development.
  • Send the one-page statement via email BY the due date* to Dr. Goatley (vgoatley@albany.edu).

To nominate a Reading Department student for the award, faculty (full-time or part-time) need to:  

  • Submit a one-page letter nominating a student and explaining why the student should receive the scholarship, such as a particular interest in literature or for research/professional development reasons. Send the letter via email BYthe due date*to Dr. Goatley ( vgoatley@albany.edu )

 

*The due date for applications/nominations is typically the end of March. When the 2005 date has been established, it will be posted here.
