Trudy Walp is a part-time instructor and online program advisor in the Reading Department. She was a Reading Specialist in the elementary grades at North Warren Central School, Chestertown, New York where she taught for 24 years. She completed her Master's of Science Degree (Reading Specialization) at Plattsburgh State University College. She also holds teacher certification in Music, K-12.
Trudy has taught literacy-related graduate courses as an adjunct instructor at The College of Saint Rose and the University at Albany for a number of years. Her research interests include the literacy development of at risk students and response to literature. She was co-recipient (along with Dr. Sean A. Walmsley) of the New York State Reading Association's 1990 Outstanding Research Award. She received the 2005 Excellence in Teaching Award from the University at Albany School of Education.
Trudy is an avid organic gardener for the two-month growing season (some call it summer) at her home in the Adirondacks. The other ten months of the year she fills her free time with skiing, snowshoeing, and, in general, trying to keep warm.
