

He completed his first novel while an undergraduate. As he continued writing, he devoted 20 years to the Center for the Study of Children's Literature at Simmons College and Children's Literature New England, Inc. Fame came with his 10th novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which spawned a Tony Award-winning musical.
