How to Report Your Public Engagement Activity

Together, we can more effectively communicate UAlbany's impactful work to the public, policymakers, funders, alumni, and other stakeholders.

By looking at the University as a whole, we can also better understand the nature of our engagement and how to connect and expand our efforts.

Faculty

  • Some modifications have been made to the Faculty Activity Report to gather information about publicly engaged work. The FAR now features:
    • Check boxes to mark scholarly activities that have a public engagement component. They are automatically compiled for you in a Public Engagement Report
    • An External Service and Partnership form;
    • A Summaries of All Publicly Engaged Work section
  • You can use these instructions to guide you in reporting engaged work.
  • The general University deadline is June 30 of each year, but a few schools/colleges may have an earlier deadline. Please check with your Dean's office.
  • As with other parts of the FAR, you can fill out these new sections at your discretion, as meets your needs or those of your department/unit.
Professional Staff & Non-Tenure Track Faculty
  • All are encouraged to participate in an online voluntary survey that will collect data on the public engagement activities that may be part of your research, teaching, and service. The survey is based on questions asked in the Faculty Activity Report.
  • You will be asked to only report on your publicly engaged activities that are related to both your work at UAlbany and your professional/academic expertise.
  • The invitation to participate will be sent to you by email around April 2 from the provost’s office. The deadline for completing the survey is May 31.
  • After submitting the survey, you will receive a summary of your responses for your own records.
Graduate Students
  • All are encouraged to participate in an online voluntary survey that will collect data on the public engagement activities that may be part of research, teaching, and service. The survey is slightly modified from that for professional staff and non-tenure track faculty.
  • You will be asked to report on all your publicly engaged work that is related to your activities at UAlbany with the exception of course-based activities. (That information is documented elsewhere.)
  • The invitation to participate will be sent to you by email around April 2 from the provost’s office. The deadline for completing the survey is May 31.
  • After submitting the survey, you will receive a summary of your responses for your own records. You can use this record to help build your resume/CV and document your skills.
Undergraduate Students
  • Visit MyInvolvement to report community service activities and hours. In the top heading, click "MyInvolvement" and choose "Experiences" to add a new activity.
  • This system will compile a record of all your community service activities over the course of your academic career at UAlbany. You can use this record to help build your resume and document your skills.

This new data collection system was developed by the Public Engagement Council and the Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness, along with other units.
Thank you for your participation!
