Dr. Dana Basnight-Brown (PhD UAlbany 2009) Co-founds first laboratory in Eastern Africa devoted to the study of human cognition

 Dr. Dana Basnight-Brown, a UAlbany Psychology graduate student who received her PhD in Cognitive Psychology with Dr. Jeanette Altarriba in 2009, is a co-founder of and Principal Investigator for the recently established Centre for Cognitive and Developmental Research at the United States International University in Nairobi, Kenya. She is an Associate Professor and International Faculty Fellow there. The centre is the first laboratory in Eastern Africa devoted to the study of human cognition. Dr. Basnight-Brown has been a recipient of the APA Mentor Fellowship for Young Career Scientists, which is funded by the National Science Foundation, the APA Early Career Achievement Award and the APA International Psychology Division Early Career Professional Award. Dr. Basnight-Brown has published 21 articles and chapters on the topics of bilingualism, memory representation, and emotion processing.
