Welcome to FOHFAK! Families
Of High Functioning Autistic Kids!
We are the families (Moms, Dads, Siblings, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles
and Cousins) of children that have been diagnosed with either Pervasive
Developmental Disorder or Asperger's Syndrome.
We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of every month in the Capital District
area of New York State.
Please contact Janice Craft at 518-477-2972 or e-mail me at fohfak@familyautism.com
for more information.
I formed this group in September of 1999 with the purpose of finding
just 2 or 3 other families that had a child like mine. I had no idea
that there were so many of us out there! Our membership roster now stands
at over 40 families and growing!
At our meetings, we compare notes, stories, failures and our many, many
successes with our kids. Other parents are our best sources of information.
We have been in every situation you can imagine. If someone has a problem,
someone else will have an idea on how to solve that problem. That is
what parent support is all about!
Families helping families!
Guest Speakers in the past have included a Nutritionist, a Behaviorist,
an ABA Specialist, Service Co-coordinators, an MSC parent educator,
experts in the field of Laws and Regulations for Special Education children.
We also had an attorney and two financial planners come in and explain
to us Special Needs Trust Funds and how to fund them. Many of these
speakers have offered their services and expertise again and will be
coming back again during the coming year.
My name is Janice Craft and I am the mom of a boy, age 11; a girl, age
9, Learning Disabled; and a boy, 6. Our youngest was diagnosed with
Pervasive Developmental Disorder and ADHD at 27 months of age back in
1997.
