At the
Psychological Services Center we offer psychotherapy services based on the
individual needs of each client. We provide short-term and longer-term
individual psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults, as well as
couples counseling and family therapy. The doctoral students and
supervisors who staff the Center represent a wide range of theoretical
orientations, from cognitive-behavioral to psychodynamic.
What Can I Expect?
Brief Telephone Interview
When first calling about psychotherapy at the Psychological Services Center,
you will speak to one of our therapists, who will conduct a brief (10 - 15
min.) telephone interview with you. The purpose of this initial
interview is for us to have a good understanding of the nature of your
concerns so that we can make an informed decision about the best treatment
options for you.
Appointment or Referral
In order to provide better service, the Center reserves the
right to decide whether the services we offer are appropriate for you.
If your case is deemed appropriate for the psychotherapy
services we offer at the Center, one of our therapists will call within 1 to
4 weeks after this telephone interview to set up an appointment. If
your case is deemed inappropriate for the services we offer, we will do our
best to assist you in finding appropriate mental health services in the
area. The length of time between your first phone call to the Center
and when a therapist calls you to set up an appointment depends upon the
length of our waiting list. In all cases, we make every effort to
return your call as soon as possible.
First Appointment

Your
first appointment will primarily be a time for your therapist to begin to
get to know you and better understand your concerns. Also during your first
appointment, you and your therapist will discuss possible treatment options,
as well as the confidential nature of psychotherapy.
Please do your best
to be
on time for your appointment and remember to call us at (518) 442-4900 at
least 24 hours in advance if you are unable to attend.
