What is the Psychological
Services Center?
The Psychological
Services Center is a training and research clinic for the
Clinical Psychology and
Counseling Psychology Doctoral Programs at The University at Albany, State
University of New York.
Who do we serve?
The Psychological Services Center is a community-based resource open to
individuals throughout the Capital District. We offer psychological
services to children, adolescents, and
adults. In order to provide better service, the Center reserves the
right to determine whether the services we offer are appropriate for any
potential client. If it is determined that we cannot appropriately meet your
needs, we will do our best to assist you in finding mental health
services that may better meet your needs.
What services do we
offer?
The Psychological
Services Center offers psychological services to children and adults,
including psychotherapy, counseling, and assessment. Services are
scheduled by appointment only and include:
-
Individual

The Psychological
Services Center also provides family assessment services for Samaritan
Shelters and Albany County
Family Court, and has service contracts for both psychotherapy and testing
with private schools in the Capital District. In addition, we accept many
referrals each year from local universities for learning disability and
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) testing and diagnosis.
Who provides the service?
Services are provided by
doctoral students. All students have completed at least one year of
doctoral training before working at the Center. These doctoral
students are supervised closely by faculty
members of the University at Albany’s Clinical and Counseling Psychology
Doctoral Programs. These faculty supervisors, listed below, are all
licensed psychologists in New York State.

Fees
Fees for psychotherapy
and counseling are set on a sliding scale from $10 to $45 per 50-minute
session.
Fees for testing depend upon the kinds of testing performed, as well as
the number of hours of testing required. Our sliding fee scale is based
on a person's income, number of dependents, and ability to pay. The
Center does not accept health insurance, other third party payments or
Medicaid at present. Individual insurance companies may reimburse
for our services, but are not required to do so under New York State law. However, we strive to set fees that will not be a
burden to our clients.
