The Presidential Search Committee held its first meeting on February 15, 2007. John O'Connor, Vice Chancellor and Secretary to the SUNY Board of Trustees and George Philip, Chair, UAlbany's University Council and Presidential Search Committee Chair, acquainted search committee members with the document "Guide to Presidential Searches at State-Operated Institutions". Vice Chancellor O'Connor will serve as the Chancellor's representative to the UAlbany Presidential Search Committee.

George Philip led a discussion covering the topics of professional search consultants, the confidentiality agreement, and media inquiries. A sub-committee composed of search committee members, chaired by George Philip, will manage the selection of a search consultant.
