Research Focus Areas

Proposals must focus on new and innovative research, scholarly and creative works projects that lead to a specific application for extramural awards in one of the following research focus areas:

  • Liberal Arts and Humanities – research including, but not limited to, the fine and performing arts, the humanities and the social sciences disciplines.
  • Life Sciences and Biomedical Research – research including, but not limited to, molecular biology, RNA science and technology, neuroscience, molecular evolution of disease, and other biomedical science related disciplines.
  • Health Disparities – research including, but not limited to, transdisciplinary investigations spanning biological, environmental, economic, behavioral and social sciences addressing the etiologies of health disparities and health inequality.
  • Engineering, Applied Sciences and Advanced Data Analytics – research including, but not limited to, computer science, networks, informatics, multimedia, natural language processing, artificial intelligence, modeling/simulation, software engineering and related disciplines.
  • Homeland Security, Extreme Weather Resiliency, Forensic Sciences and Cyber Security – research including, but not limited to, emergency management, public health preparedness and response, homeland security, extreme weather resiliency/climate science, forensic chemistry, forensic molecular biology, cybersecurity/digital forensics and related disciplines.
