Dr. Yu-Hui Chen’s service exemplifies superior professional achievement in the field of librarianship. She has performed superbly in her librarianship duties as a Bibliographer and Outreach Librarian for the School of Education and East Asian Studies. Dr. Chen has far exceeded the typical responsibilities of a subject specialist in working with faculty and students to assist in their research. This has included maintaining helpful subject guides for education researchers, teaching library workshops, and selecting resources for her subject areas. She routinely goes far above and beyond the usual responsibilities to assure that her subject area collections meet the needs of students and faculty. This includes significantly enhancing the library’s juvenile and East Asian collections through unrelenting diligence and hard work. Dr. Chen has demonstrated flexibility, innovation and adaptability to change by enabling the University Libraries to create a more user-friendly library website.

Dr. Chen also gives generously of her time to build community and honor colleagues at the University at Albany. She has served as a member of the Initiatives for Women Selection Committee and currently serves as the co-chair of this esteemed body which awards grants for outstanding women. Her activities are so broad and deep that it is difficult to focus on just a few accomplishments: she has taken a leadership role in eleven regional and national organizatons, seven campus committees, 14 library committees, and helped plan and put on many campus and library events.

Dr. Chen has also excelled in her research contributions to the body of research in human interaction. Despite the fact that the “terminal degree” for librarianship is at the Master’s level, Dr. Chen obtained her Ph.D. in Information Science in 2012. She has since published several peer-reviewed articles in top-tier journals for the academic library field. Dr. Chen’s extensive contributions to the University in the areas of librarianship, service, and scholarship are celebrated with the receipt of this prestigious award.
