Kathleen GersowitzArts and Sciences

Since her arrival at UAlbany in 1988, Ms. Kathleen Gersowitz has demonstrated excellence in professional service and a strong commitment to the University at Albany. She was hired as Communications Coordinator with the School of Business. Immediately, she began to promote the School through designing new publications and revamping the newsletter. Over the next three decades, Ms. Gersowitz continued to advance within the University. She held positions within the School of Business and School of Social Welfare, before accepting a position with the College of Arts and Sciences as Assistant Dean for Planning and Special Projects. She has now also holds the titles Assistant Dean for Administrative Services and Assistant Dean for Academic Programs.

Ms. Gersowitz’ many responsibilities are key to helping the College of Arts and Sciences succeed in its strategic goals. Her work ranges from planning for enrollment management to working with departments regarding academic programs, planning and assessment, to coordinating the College of Arts and Sciences’ participation in UAlbany’s General Education programs. She has oversight for many other areas, including as Director of the University in the High School Program and responsibility for the College of Arts and Sciences’ graduate assistantships. In spite of the significant load she carries, she continues to provide service the University outside her job description.  She chairs search committees, serves on the Campus Committee on University Community Engagement, is involved in OASIS, and has been a key player in developing strategies in critical areas such as engaged scholarship, assessment, and communications.

In her daily work, Ms. Gersowitz goes above and beyond what is expected of her and commits herself to the betterment of the University. She has been described as “a model University citizen that exemplifies a high degree of administrative competence” and has demonstrated strong academic leadership with “the goal of advancing the academic excellence of this campus. Her colleagues know her as a hard-working, thoughtful person who takes the time to get things right and who perseveres and gets things done. All while exuding a wonderful sense of tact and professionalism. Ms. Gersowitz is respected by all who work with her for her broad understanding of policies and her ability to shepherd projects to fruition.
