International Student Services, Programs Merge
Provost
and Vice President for Academic Affairs Judy Genshaft recently announced
the merger of the Office of International Student Services with the Office
of International Programs. Steven Thomson, former director of the Office
of International Student Services, will serve as interim director of the
new office while a search is conducted for a permanent director. The combined
office will report to Academic Affairs.
The change recognizes
that more international students are now studying at Albany, and a greater
number of University students are going abroad. Another factor was the
retirement of Alex Shane as director of the Office of International Programs
after a long and distinguished career at the University.

Business Fraternity Wins National
Recognition
School
of Business Dean Richard A. Highfield has announced that the University's
Zeta Psi chapter of the international professional fraternity Delta Sigma
Pi has been ranked number one in the country according to its Chapter Efficiency
Index. Founded in 1967, the Zeta Psi chapter is the only professional fraternity
on campus that is limited to business and accounting majors.
Chapters earn points
from the national organization for events and activities during the year.
These include community service and conducting mock interviews. One of
the events for which the campus chapter received points was an October
1998 career fair that drew 120 firms to campus to recruit business students. |

C-GCC and University Ink Transfer
Agreement
The
University has signed a new articulation agreement with Columbia-Greene
Community College that streamlines the transfer process for students pursuing
a bachelor's degree.
While the two institutions
have inked contracts before, the present agreement provides for joint admissions
to both campuses, beginning with the freshman year. Under the agreement,
a student entering Columbia-Greene is granted conditional acceptance to
the University with junior status upon satisfactory completion of one of
the prescribed programs of study.
The agreement covers
many disciplines and allows for seamless transfer in two years from C-GCC
to the University. It is a broad document that also contains provisions
for cross registration and support services.
The agreement, signed
by Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Judy Genshaft, and by
Philip Mancha, dean of academic affairs at C-GCC, covers such disciplines
as art, biology, English, computer science, history, psychology, economics,
and sociology, among others. |
